WNYCOSH is a non-profit organization with a mission of defending workers’ rights to a safe and healthy work  environment through outreach, advocacy and education to improve working conditions of all workers.  As a part of our training and education program, WNYCOSH provides worker safety and health training to thousands of workers in the Western New York area covering a wide range of topics on how to identify, evaluate and control hazards they are exposed to on the job. WNYCOSH employees are members of Teamsters Local 264.

Position Purpose

To provide training on occupational safety and health issues to worker populations defined in WNYCOSH’s NYS DOL, Hazard Abatement Board (HAB) training and education program, and US DOL training programs.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Conduct health and safety and workers’ rights trainings for unions, union safety & health reps, general workforce and supervisory personnel, and immigrant and refugee workers
  • Develop and adapt training materials and resources tailored to various worker populations, hazards and workplaces
  • Program planning, evaluation, and scheduling
  • Attend required meetings related to joint labor/management, union, and immigrant serving organizations. Training initiatives include NYS HAB, OSHA Susan Harwood training, and other training initiatives

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years training and/or safety experience related to occupational safety and health
  • Experience in training on a wide range of occupational safety and health topics, including core elements of OSHA 10 & OSHA 30 in General Industry (Construction Industry a plus)
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and comfortably train people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability (on occasion) to work with different training schedules that require accommodating shift workers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have NYS drivers license and reliable transportation to cover WNY

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, experience with Macintosh computers a plus
  • Bilingual or multilingual a plus
  • OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer–construction or general industry a plus
  • Education degree or degree in occupational health and safety a plus
